Featured in a special episode of Challenge Anneka to mark Dementia Awareness Week 2023, this project saw the creation of a 'memory village' within the grounds of the Age UK Wirral headquarters, transforming the dementia facility and bringing a revolutionary care concept to Merseyside.
Including a café, post office, record store, village pub, cinema and workshop, the mock high street is designed to be accessible and recreate familiar memories and positive sensory experiences in a safe environment.
Inspired by innovative reminiscence therapies pioneered overseas, the long-held dream of the Age UK Wirral team was made possible by the revival of classic TV show Challenge Anneka, helping to secure funding and rallying together forces from across the construction sector and local community.
Having worked together previously, Age UK Wirral approached SDA to assist with the funding application and to act as lead consultant and guide the project from conception to completion.
Navigating extraordinary time pressures and numerous site constraints, the project was shovel-ready in under eight weeks thanks to the positive, proactive collaboration with the Local Authority to obtain the necessary Planning and Building Control consents.

"To see the project go from an initial sketch to hundreds of people volunteering their time and skills to make it a reality has been amazing. The community pulling together for such a great cause is something I will remember for the rest of my career."
